Stoney Park now the HO Test Centre for Australia
Stoney park becomes the HO Test Centre for Australasia!
HO USA together with HO Australia, are supplying Stoney Park with a full range of high end slalom skis - the newest "HO A1 " - in all sizes, Monzas, Nos, System 8's and the new womens couture. This new partnership aims to give all skiers the opportunity of testing the newest skis on the market and having the professional staff set the skis up for optimum personal performance... This gives the skier the opportunity to basically "try before you buy".... as all slalom skis are an expensive investment and this is to guarantee that the customer is happy with the ski that they are buying.
All the skier needs to do is - prior to taking a lesson at Stoney park, let the staff at the park know that they are interested in trying a new HO ski and they will arrange to have the ski set up for them - which they can try as part of their next lesson.
Stoney Park's owner and resident Head coach -Jason Stone is now skiing on the new A1 , which is testement to how he strongly believes in the quality and the performance of the skis that both Stoney Park and HO are promoting together. Jason, has said "the new A1 is unbelievable! I jumped straight on it and loved it! It is the fastest and quickest turning ski that i have ever ridden. It holds incredible cross course angle and it has great tip pressure through both side turns".
This new tighter and stronger partnership between HO and Stoney Park has created the unique opportunity for skiers, who now can find it easier to try the best slalom skis on the market at the premier waterski facility in the southern hemesphere!

Round 2 of the NSW Malibu series
Article for Waterski Magazine
By Sinead Stone
Another season for the now very popular NSW Malibu Series is well under way, with the recent completion of the 2nd round at Stoney Park – on November 15 and 16th.
The numbers to the tournament had once again reached maximum capacity with the tournament receiving close to 90 entries again – which is the second tournament in a row to do so at Stoney Park!
The now ever popular mini course division, has seen the likes of Stephanie Griffiths and Casey Wooderson compete in the division for the last time as both have skied the full course in all rounds, meaning that they will now graduate to the 28-46k division for the next Malibu series tournament – which is being held at Myuna Bay mid December.
Those who skiing the mini course, use it as a “stepping stone” into the regular slalom divisions and it is always seeing familiar faces pass through its ranks on the way to greater “slalom Dom”!. It was also fantastic to see some of the “dodgy dads”, such as Danny Hartwell and Jamie Miller making a brave debut into this division for the first time – trying to catch up to their very accomplished children who have by now well surpassed them in skiing skills!
The Saturday of the tournament was a huge day, with an 0700am start on both lakes, and the back lake not finishing up until almost 7pm. The 2 Malibu responses that were being used to tow the tournament went into over drive for the day to get through the huge number of skiers, who not only slalom but the ever growing number of skiers who are also now choosing to “2 or 3 event” – which means compete in either trick or jump – or both!
Their were some huge personal bests achieved over the weekend, including Damon Wooderson , who slalomed into the 14 metre line for the first time at a tournament. Coffs Harbours Danny McDonald had a great tournament with huge personal bests in both trick and jump.
Newcastle’s Carly Otoole scored 5 buoys at 49k in the second round, to better her previous best by almost 8 buoys!
The Southern Cross Textiles Pro Slalom event had a massive 12 competitors, with half of the competitors having a score in at least one of the rounds on the 11 metre line!
The Pro slalom division even saw 2 international competitors with the like of New Zealand’s Craig Rodgers and Chris Brown both competing for the prestigious crown! But it was Stoney Parks owner, Jason Stone who came through with the goods to win the event with consistent skiing in both rounds to take home the winners cheque in this difficult event.
Both rounds of jump were completed on the Saturday, which enabled the technical crew an easier tournament overall as it meant that the jump cameras and grid systems etc were only needed to be set up once instead of twice if doing jump on both days.
The jump division saw many new faces compete – including Narooma’s newest 3 event skier – Adam Swadling, who almost jumped 10 metres in his first ever tournament! Congratulations must also go to Sydney ski clubs newest jumpers, Dillon and Bradley Goodwin as well Jamie Campbell who all made the 0-10 metre jump division a memorable one from the bank!
The largest jump of the weekend was the massive 47 metre jump that Newcastle’s Tim Bradstreet put on the board in the Southern Cross Textiles Pro Jump event, showing the crowd the reason why he is heading to Peru in January to represent Australia at the Junior worlds!
The final event of the weekend was tricks, which saw a total of 32 trickers compete over the weekend – of which 16 were all new to the sport and competing in the 0-500 point division.
Coffs Harbour’s Jacqueline McDonald had a huge weekend as she tricked, slalomed and jumped personal bests in all 3 events!
The Southern Cross textiles pro trick event was the second win of the weekend for Newcastle’s Tim Bradstreet, with consistent tricking in both rounds – scoring at least 6500 each time. Congratulation Tim and Good luck representing Australia in January!
Well as the crowds drove out the gate, the weekend at Stoney park was once again wrapped up and considered a huge success by all those who competed and helped out for the weekend!
Stoney Park now has a couple of months break from tournaments before gearing up to a huge summer which will see the park host the prestigious Aussie /Kiwi Challenge in mid January and the NSW state titles and the National Championships – which are both being held at the Park in April!

90 skiers compete at the April Stoney Park Malibu series!
The 2007/2008 NSW Malibu series was wrapped up in a large way at Stoney Park for the final round on April 12 and 13.
Traditionally, the tournament water skiing “season” ends up at the conclusion of the nationals – which are always held at Easter. But in 2008, with Easter being so early, the decision was made by the team at Stoney Park in conjunction with the NSW tournament board to try their luck and host the event 3 weeks after nationals.
This decision was certainly was a wise one – with the event not only being the largest Malibu series tournament ever held , but is also a record for NSW, with nobody (well certainly nobody at the weekend!) recalling a tournament (outside of a nationals) held in NSW ever that has been larger! All in all, their was a total of 88 slalom skiers, 26 trickers and 26 jumpers!
One contributing factor that helped the weekend run so smoothly was that the 190 ski tows were pulled by a total of 3 Malibu responses! The Canberra ski club helped out by bringing their boat along, which greatly assisted in getting through the large number of skiers.
From a spectator's point of view, with 2 boats operating one lake and a third boat on the other lake, it made for plenty of on water action and certainly no time to wonder what would be happening next on the water.
The weekend saw the return of so many familiar Malibu Series skiers and also a huge influx of new skiers, to both the mini course and regular slalom divisions.
During the week leading up to the tournament, the park had received approximately 4 inches of rain – which made for a nervous bunch of skiers, wondering if the skies would clear up or if the autumn weather would close in for the event! Thankfully, the skies cleared and the weekend's conditions were nothing less than perfect! The sun came out, the wind vanished and the 2 man made lakes had absolutely perfect conditions for the huge event!
The mini course division was taken out by new comer to Stoney Park , Hannah Mahon, who had travelled all the way from Temora for the weekend. With a perfect score in the second round, I think Hannah will certainly be stepping up a division for next season!
The 28-46k division was won by Newcastle 's Jesse Everett. This is a fantastic result, considering that back at the beginning of the summer at the junior camp held at Stoney Park , Jesse was struggling to run the mini course!
In the 46-52k division, it was up and coming Sydney skier, Jason Miller who went away with the trophy! Jason skied a new personal best of 3 buoys on the 13 metre line to take out the event.
It was new dad and “out of practice” skier, Charlie Barton, who fist pumped the whole way through his last pass, to clean up the 52k-16m division! Charlie hadn't skied for a couple of weeks prior to the event and now is a firm believer of the “why bother practising?”theory as he skied a new personal best in the final! Obviously he isn't the one getting up at 3am to change nappies and do the feeds!
Sibling rivalry and family domination were prevalent in the 16m-13m division. Brother and sister combination, Tim and Alyce Bradstreet, showed everyone why they are hopefully off to Peru in January competing at the junior worlds – with both of them taking out the first and second positions respectively.
The final slalom division, 13m+, was won by Stoney Park 's head coach, Jason Stone. This has capped off a great season for Jason that also saw him take the first prize in “Cooksie's” Sydney Pro Am.
In the tricks events, more evidence of siblings excelling, came in the form of the O'toole sisters. Both Sarah and Carly O'toole took out their divisions, the 0-500 and 500-1000 point respectively.
In jump, some fantastic scores and huge personal bests were achieved by regular many, including regular Stoney Park skiers; Drew Ireland, Danny McDonald and Damon Wooderson.
So, with the 2007/2008 Malibu series season all wrapped up, it is probably a perfect opportunity to reflect on a fantastic year and how far the series has come! All 7 rounds were absolutely overflowing with newcomers and had to cut off entries early due to the huge response in their ever growing popularity! To think, in the early days, the organisers were thrilled to see 30 competitors – wow what a difference 7 years makes! One can only be left to wonder……..how big and how fantastic will the Malibu series be in summer 08/09? |

Jason Stone Wins the Sydney Pro Am
Stoney Park's head coach, Jason Stone has taken out the first prize in the Sydney Pro- Am, which was held the first weekend in March at the Sydney Waterski Club site - Cooks River, next to the International airport in Sydney.
The conditions at the site were very tough for all the competitors, with most not completing their first pass in the preliminary rounds which were held on the Saturday.
Jason showed consistency over both days, with a score of 3 buoys on the 11.25 metre line in round 1, which ensured that he was the highest seed for the finals the following day.
In the finals, being last skier off the dock , Jason had to be beat the strong score put on the board by current Australian Slalom Champion Joel Wing. Joel skied 3.25 buoys on the 11.25 metre line, meaning that Jason would have to ski 3.5 buoys to take out the championships.
Jason did just that, and skied 3.5 buoys to slot himself into first place.
Congratulations Jason - from your training partners, friends and family at Stoney Park!

Waterski Worlds 2007
Stoney Park's Karina Nowlan has come away with the Bronze medal in the Womens slalom division of the World Waterski championships, which were held the last weekend in August in Linz, Austria. Karina skied a personal best of 1.5 buoys on the 10.75 metre line to achieve this fantastic result!
Karina has been competing and training in both Europe and the states since late April, but suffered a huge setback during May, when she dislocated her hip in a horrible jump crash. Karina has recuperated well and obvously her results in the world championships show she is back to full strength.
Karina also competed in the Womens jump division and put a very impressive 48.5 metre jump on the board, but this was not enough to secure a spot on the podium.
Karina will now head back to the states to compete in more tournaments before returning home in October. Congratulations Karina - we are all really proud of you!
